PowerCommand® Control Systems

Description

PowerCommand is Cummins Power Generation’s control platform for generator sets and automatic transfer switches (ATS). As the system’s control center, it provides the following core capabilities:

1. Highly Integrated Intelligent Control
   • Integrated Functionality: Program control, digital governing, digital voltage regulation, automatic paralleling, load sharing, intelligent excitation, and utility monitoring are combined in one compact real-time platform.
   • Microprocessor Architecture: Digital voltage regulation, remote start/stop, generator protection, and comprehensive digital displays deliver fast response to sudden load changes.

2. Advanced Protection and Reliability (AmpSentry Technology)

• Cummins AmpSentry Protection: Inverse-time overcurrent protection closely follows the thermal-damage curve of a synchronous generator, coordinating effectively with downstream devices while protecting the generator and optimizing project cost.
• High-Reliability Design: Integrated self-protection reduces dependence on complex external devices, improving safety while lowering maintenance requirements.

3. Flexible Remote Monitoring and Communications

• Remote Monitoring (PowerCommand 500/550): Web-based access supports remote start/stop, status monitoring, alarms, and data logging for generator sets, transfer switches, and sensors, reducing on-site service requirements.
• Flexible Connectivity: Modbus RTU, LonWorks, RS485, and Ethernet (TCP/IP) interfaces enable integration with third-party equipment, remote platforms, and PC software such as InPower.

4. Broad Application Range and Flexible Configuration

• Broad Application Range: Supports 50/60 Hz diesel and natural-gas generator sets in parallel and non-parallel applications across a wide alternator-voltage range.
• Software-Based Configuration: Functions, settings, and adjustments can be customized for specific operating conditions, with strong backward compatibility.

5. Convenient Local Operation and Maintenance

• Intuitive Local Interface: HMI controls and status indicators simplify operation and troubleshooting.
• Simplified Maintenance: USB or SD-card data export and self-diagnostics support efficient analysis and service.
